Blessed Easter! Christ Is Risen! No Foolin’
While I don’t think too many parents are surprising their children with live bunnies and chicks, there certainly is an emphasis on chocolate bunnies, candy and stuffed animals. Of course there are Easter eggs with no connection made to the symbolism involved in connection with the resurrection
Blessed Easter! Christ Is Risen! No Foolin’
While I don’t think too many parents are surprising their children with live bunnies and chicks, there certainly is an emphasis on chocolate bunnies, candy and stuffed animals. Of course there are Easter eggs with no connection made to the symbolism involved in connection with the resurrection of Jesus.
With Easter being close to April Fools Day there are certainly people who think we are fools to believe that Jesus rose from the dead. But the truth is that the evidence for his resurrection is quite significant. In fact, I make the case that Christ’s resurrection established the validity of the entire Bible.
God promised a son who would save the people from their sins all the way back to Adam and Eve and kept repeating that promise through the generations. Time and again God protected the line of Abraham, even when they were unfaithful, because he promised the Savior would come from that family line. When the time was right Christ took on human flesh, lived among the people to demonstrate the power and love of God through his words and miracles. And through it all he spoke of the Son of Man, meaning the son God promised, who would die and rise again to destroy the power of the devil and grant eternal life for all who believe.
Some people will say that they believe that Jeus died for their sins, but they don’t believe in the his resurrection. But without his resurrection how would anyone really know that the whole thing wasn’t just a rouse as the Pharisees tried to make it out to be. The disciple Thomas helped us a lot with what he insisted upon when told that Jesus was alive. He said he needed to touch Jesus to know the resurrection was real and while it could have been enough for the disciples to say Jesus was alive to have physical proof would remove any doubt.
We are told that over 500 people saw Jesus alive in the forty days after Easter and that these witnesses, especially the apostles as they would now be called, would stand firm in their testimony all the way to their last breaths. Through torture, the threat of death, and then their final executions they proclaimed Christ crucified and risen from the dead. The cost for the resurrection message was death, not personal gain, but there was no denial of the risen Savior for they desired nothing other than the life to come in the heavenly kingdom. They lived as long as they were allowed for the sole purpose of spreading the Good News around the world, or as far as they could go, trusting that others would believe their testimony and spread the news farther.
Thomas for example took the message all the way to India, where churches that were started I the first century still exist to spread the news. The news has made to our ears and now we are called to faithfully rejoice in an proclaim the message that Jesus Christ, the only Son of the Father has risen from the dead in order to remove our punishment from sin and restore all who believe to the perfect life that God intended, with him forever.
So how does Jesus help us to believe all of the Bible? Well, he spoke of being there at creation when everything was spoken into being. He spoke of the great flood and Noah and his family being kept safe in the ark. He spoke of the crossing of the Red Sea and how it was a symbol of baptism. Jonah was told as a foreshadowing event to the resurrection, and he foretold his own third day resurrection. The one who rose from the dead had no reason to lie for in doing so he had nothing to gain and if he had lied then he would not have been perfect, and if he was not perfect then we would till be lost in our sins. The faithful testimony of those who touched and saw the risen Christ is all we need to believe as they did, until the end of our earthly days. Jesus is our hope, our promise, for what is to come. So have a blessed Easter, everyday, forever.
